BEFORE AND AFTER SERIES: The Farmhouse Bedroom Part I

Actually this is a bit of a tease. . .for the FARMHOUSE BEDROOM is still a work in progress. . .and one that probably won't be finished until next SPRING. . .and here's why. . .

I can't get to the furniture pieces I need!!!!!!
You see. . .I've been cleaning out buildings and storage for a big SALE. . .and without thinking I've piled everything in front of the 'KEEPERS'. . .including a VINTAGE DRESSER and MIRROR I intended to put in this bedroom. . .along with a CHAIR. . .and a BENCH. . .and a few other FOUND PIECES. . .Wasn't very smart of me, was it?

So I'm sharing with you our WINTER STYLE. . .and several BEFORE photos. . .Through the Winter I will be working on the SECOND PART of this REVEAL. . .Changing furniture around. . .Adding the Vintage Dresser and other lost pieces. . .

We've actually come a long way. . .Here's how the bedroom began. . .

Looks like something from the 50s (or earlier), doesn't it?

At this point in time, everything we owned was boxed up and stored. . .Carpenters were working on the house while we were living in it. . .I honestly don't recommend that if you have any other choice. . .I think this room stayed pretty much like this for almost a year. . .

Then it became an example of a 1930s bedroom. . .

For several years we allowed visitors to be toured through our home. . .Since we were taking them back to 1938 over the rest of the FARM, I felt our home should also reflect that era. . .And too, there was quite a bit of work to be done on the bedroom before anything permanent could be added. . .It needed a new FLOOR for one thing. . .During the winter I could feel the cold wind from outside. . .coming up through the cracks in the floor. . .The second winter we were quick to put a large area rug down, which helped but not the choice for the long run. . .

It was such a thrill when finally we got a new floor. . .only two years ago. . .

A beautiful BLACK PAINTED WOOD for the BEDROOM and the LIVING ROOM. . .
I wasn't sure I'd like the black. . .but was drawn back to the choice over and over. . .
When we found this black flooring deeply discounted. . .I decided to try it. . .

I LOVED IT!!!!!
Still do. . .It helped set the theme for the rest of the room. . .

WHITE. . .BLACK. . .NEUTRALS

I didn't choose this theme just because the floor was black. . .I've had the same color palette throughout the house. . .beginning with the black and white checkered floor in the keeping room. . .One of the main reasons for the palette was to reflect the COTTON that is grown on our farm. . .Shades of the same colors. . .

From there it was a 'PIECE OF CAKE'. . .Everything fell into place. . .

VINTAGE FARMHOUSE STYLE. . .but not as vintage as the 1930s era. . .
SIMPLE. . .NEUTRAL. . .not 'fussy' and frilly. . .

Notice the PILLOW on the bed from my

It adds so much to the room. . .
and ties in with one of my favorite FRAMED PRINT hanging on the wall. . .
a GIFT from John several years ago. . .

The swirls in the QUILT. . .and the swirls of the WROUGHT IRON DOOR tie in together also.
I'd like to tell you that I planned that. . .but I'll be honest and tell you it was a happy accident. . .

The ironwork came off a screen door from the home where I grew up. . .The rest of the door fell apart but I wanted to keep the ironwork. . .It ended up in the bedroom while I thought about where to put it. . .One day when I ran across this quilt in my collection, I realized it would be perfect in the bedroom. . .still not connecting the two until I spread the quilt out on the bed. . .WOW!

Sometimes I get LUCKY. . .

It's a GOOD START. . .Once the SALE is over. . .I'll be moving furniture around and finishing this FARMHOUSE BEDROOM. . .You'll see these same elements again. . .but in different placements. . .AND. . .with the other FARMHOUSE FURNITURE pieces. . .that are presently buried under boxes. . .
I can hardly wait to see how it all turns out myself !!!!
